Just what the doctor ordered. Yes, after the crowds and swindlers of Istambul this Island in Greece was such a treat. A beautiful little town with their white structures, blue trim, and a sea view as far as the eye can see. My day consisted of walking along the sea, soaking in the rays, eating, drinking, and just plain dilly-dallying around. I know, it’s a tough life but someone has to do it and I am lucky enough to pursue a dreamed life.
The hotel was fantastic (Apollon Boutique Hotel) with nice size rooms (especially after the tiny room in Istanbul), a nice garden and a very pleasant staff. I don’t usually recommend hotels but this was such a wonderful experience, I thought a shout out was well deserved.
I stayed here seven days and could have easily stayed another seven. However, if you are looking to party, this isn’t the Island for you. I’m sure it gets more crowded during high season, but the weather was still nice in October so not a bad time to come, albeit shops start closing for the winter in October. Personally, I like this time of year for traveling, less people and cheaper rates - win-win.
If you want to drive around the island, check to see if you are required to have an international drivers license. I’m from California and couldn’t rent even a scooter (yes, there are a few places that will look the other way, but the fines for you are steep). It really isn’t necessary because Paros has an excellent public bus system in place, the bus ticket is around 1.80 euro per ride.
Took a day trip to Antiparos but wasn’t impressed. I know, Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson have a summer home here but the island was just okay. Maybe I needed more than a day here to appreciate all it has to offer.
Below are a couple of links to get a different viewpoint.
