Warsaw

We can handle the rain, we can handle the cold, we can even handle the wind, but we can’t handle all three. In the 40°s - burr, a constant rain-soaked, wind - blusterous. That was our first full day in Warsaw so as much as we tried, we just didn’t see many sights - basically, we were wusses and stayed warm and cozy in our apartment. The apartment we rented was 60s era communist construction - the halls were dark and reminded you of an old cold hospital ward with elevators that were original (a bit scary). But, once we opened the door, we were pleasantly surprised by how modern and clean it was (never judge a book by its cover). To make up for lost time from our first day, we took a city tour hop on - hop off bus, we were disappointed with what was covered. The good thing about the tour was that we realized the city wasn’t as big as we had first thought. Our apartment was centrally located (not sure if that was good or bad, we had to walk everywhere because nothing was where we were located) so, a mile this way or a mile that way were the sights we wanted to see. The city was a mixture of new modern buildings, 60s era communist buildings and a few old buildings that were left after the bombing. There wasn’t much charm to the city, but we ate well, learned a lot about Jewish history and tried our hardest to adapt to the cold because for the next few weeks it’s only going to get colder.
